The Laughing Kookaburra is a common bird in parts of Australia. It is famous for its call, which sounds like a loud laughter. It is also known as the “bushman’s alarm clock” because a Laughing kookaburra vocalizes at dawn, midday and dusk.

A real character this bird is! The bird belongs to the family of kingfishers, of which it is the largest representative. During the day this bulky bird is not so active, perching in a tree or a wire and staring fixedly at the ground below with its large eyes. Only now and then it flies down to catch its prey, which can be all kinds of small animals like rodents, reptiles and even small snakes. Laughing kookaburras are  native to woodlands and open forests in Australia, where they nest in cavities of tree trunks and branches.

The kit:

The kit contains a lot of instructions. But the robust shape of the Kookaburra makes it ideal for a paper model: the large parts are easy to handle, and it is not difficult to assemble. For me it was challenging to design this model as lifelike as possible. When you made the model it looks like you have a 'real' Kookaburra in the house!

The model contains 10 sheets which need to be printed on normal 120 gr paper. The kit also has 7 sheets with instructions which need not to be printed.
